Neotectonic Vocal Ensemble is a group of old friends and new faces brought together by a love for vocal ensemble music. Neotectonic was founded by Peter Simpson in early 2021 with the hopes of specialising in early vocal music. Since then, they have been singing both early and contemporary music with all sorts in between.
In their inaugural concert, Neotectonic are joined by Johnny Chang and Keir GoGwilt who explore some of the expressive dimensions of intonation, timbre, harmony, and counterpoint in “Studies on Orlando” (GoGwilt) and "von bingen background" (Chang). GoGwilt and Chang’s pieces emerged from weekly sessions ornamenting two-part motets by Orlando de Lassus (1530/32-1594) and chants by Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179).
