Join Kate Russell for a talk and then a guided tour of the iconic Cuningham House conservatory – a building with a fascinating history and collection of plants. Hear the tale of Irish immigrants coming to make a new life in New Zealand, followed by tragedy, scandal and, ultimately, a very generous gift to the city.
Home to a range of exotic plants from far-flung places, Cuningham House collection includes the famous ‘corpse flower’, which bloomed in 2020, in addition to tropical fruit and carnivorous plants. The next chapter in the conservatory’s story is a fundraising programme to ensure that the structure stands for another 100 years.
Publicly accessible restrooms, Wheelchair/Walking Aid/Pram accessible, Service animals allowed, Assistive listening devices, Child friendly.
Join Open Christchurch on 15 & 16 May.
