Shakespeare In The Park: A Midsummer Night's Dream (NT Live)

The National Theatre's 2019 production of A Midsummer Night's Dream comes to us via digital technology.

Bring a picnic, chair and blankets and enjoy a world-class production on our Speedy Signs giant TV in the band rotunda area of Queens Park.

It's free to attend so you can come and go at your leisure! The screenings will, of course, be subject to favourable weather.

With spectacular use of aerial acrobatics, the appeal of A Midsummer Night's Dream is universal.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the settings include a forest – a dream world of flying fairies, contagious fogs and moonlight revels, surrounded by a roving audience following the action on foot.

The play is about a feuding fairy King and Queen of the forest crossing paths with four runaway lovers and a troupe of actors trying to rehearse a play. As their dispute grows, the magical royal couple meddle with mortal lives leading to love triangles, mistaken identities and transformations... with hilarious, but dark consequences.

The production was captured live from the Bridge Theatre in London.

Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Oliver Chris (Green Wing, NT Live: Young Marx), David Moorst (NT Live: Allelujah!) and Hammed Animashaun (The Barber Shop Chronicles) lead the cast as Titania, Oberon, Puck and Bottom.

The film is classified M which means anyone can attend but it is more suitable for those over 16 years (it has some coarse language and contains sexual references). Parental guidance is recommended.
