Opera in a hotel room. An intimate invitation to a lover’s betrayal. 45 minutes you cannot look away from. Written in the middle of the last century by two enfants terribles of the French art scene, Poulenc and Cocteau, The Human Voice is an uncompromising performance that challenges the audience to play detective in unravelling lies both spoken and unspoken.
This site-specific production takes place inside a hotel room, bringing audiences within inches both physically and emotionally to the performer. A woman waits for the phone to ring. To talk to her ex-lover one more time. This is a tale of love stripped back, the lies we tell to others and ourselves, an unflinching examination of the human condition that cuts through to the soul.
The opera will be performed by one of Australasia’s finest sopranos Fiona McAndrew, accompanied by David Kelly on piano.
