Young trombonist Finn McKinlay presents a set of his original compositions that have been workshopped and arranged by pianist Bill Martin. These compositions register the influence of electronic music on modern jazz and utilise the altered harmonies of Thelonious Monk, as well as bebop vocabulary of Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.

Finn McKinlay is an emerging jazz musician on the Dunedin scene. He is currently lead trombone for the Dunedin Youth Jazz Orchestra and has performed as a sideman in bands led by Michael Gordon, Bill Martin and Ralph Miller. Finn is studying composition at the University of Otago and has many original ideas that have formed the basis of his new jazz compositions. Finn won numerous awards at the Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival and Rock quest for his trombone playing and recently featured on Bill Martin's new album "Over To You".
