“A Long Time Coming” is rather appropriate for a title as it has been close to 22 years since Jason Johnstone last held an exhibition. Whether it be through the death of his father or his struggles with depression and anxiety, Jason’s creativity ebbed and flowed till it got to the point where it was easier to find excuses not to create than to attempt to force the creative flow out. But as he’s always said; ‘This is not just something I do, it’s a part of who I am’, so he was always drawn back to the easel.

Jason has been artistic for as long as he can remember and has always loved the sensation of watching something he is creating emerge from a blank surface. Jason grew up as a fan of Van Gogh and Dali but is generally influenced by movies, books, music, and the world around him… anything that Jason sees or hears that he perceives as beautiful. Whether that beauty is in light or darkness, reality or fantasy, that is what Jason does… he creates what is to him… beauty. Others may dispute this, but as they say; ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’.
