Take a walk and talk with the Len Lye Curator through the new summer suite of exhibitions. Len Lye Curator Paul Brobbel, leads a tour of the summer exhibitions Sky Snakes and Atomic Power.
Atomic Power:
Len Lye as political thinker: beyond riotous experimental films to a world at war. In the 1940s Lye’s politics placed the artist amongst a group of figures concerned with questions of freedom, peace and the idea of global community. Atomic Power tells that story.
Sky Snakes:
Seven swirling Sky Snakes make a return to the Gallery for summer. A large-scale kinetic sculpture from the Len Lye Foundation and Team Zizz!
Len Lye developed the first Sky Snake - a fantastic dancing kinetic sculpture - in 1965, debuting the work at the Albright–Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York. More recently, the work has been reconstructed for the Museum Tinguely exhibition in Basel, Switzerland.
