Activism, Feminism, Politics and Parliament by Margaret Wilson DCNZM reveals a lifetime of acting on conviction. After law school in the 60s, Wilson went on to become the president of the Labour Party and then an occasionally controversial minister in the Clark government with significant roles as Attorney-General and Speaker of the House. Wilson’s other achievements include being founding Dean of Waikato Law School, Director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, and Convenor of a Government Working Party on Equal Pay and Equal Opportunities. Jess Berentson-Shaw speaks with Margaret about her life and what progress she thinks we still need to make.

Margaret Wilson, DCNZM, is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Waikato and Deputy Commissioner of the Waikato District Health Board. Her research and writing focused on feminism, labour relations, and politics. From 1999 to 2005 she was Minister of the Crown, with positions including Attorney-General, Minister of Labour and Minister Responsible for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations. Before retiring from politics she was Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Dr Jess Berentson-Shaw is a New Zealand researcher and communicator, and good science advocate. Her work spans the social, economic and political spectrum. She is co-director of think-and-do tank, The Workshop, and a senior research associate at the Public Policy Institute at the University of Auckland. Jess is author of A Matter of Fact: Talking Truth in a Post-Truth World (BWB Texts).
