Taking inspiration from the current Francoise Gilot exhibition on display, CAN is proud to host expert printmaker Cate Godwin who will teach you the accessible technique of creating monoprints. Made popular in the 19th century by English artist & poet William Blake and French artist Edgar Degas, this printmaking technique is unique in that no two prints created are the same. The beauty of this medium is also in its spontaneity, it can be used as a combination of printmaking, painting and drawing.

Cate will carefully guide you through the process of creating your prints during this two-part evening course. During the workshop you will experiment with techniques to embellish the final prints, enhancing images with watercolour, graphite and chine-coll. You will print your images using the CAN etching press. By the end of the second evening you will have created several resolved monoprints to keep. Suitable for complete beginners, or for printmakers who are looking to explore new monoprinting techniques, this workshop is a great place for all those interested in or simply curious about printmaking!
