A WORKSHOP FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO CREATE EITHER A REALISTIC OR ABSTRACT SCULPTURE.
You do not have to have had experience as you will be taken through the process. Kathi Mclean, the tutor, has evolved her own process using a plinth as the basic structure to build up from clay and the plinth will be supplied.
DAY PLAN FOR THE WORKSHOP:
DAY 1
- Make a simple drawing of your planned sculpture
- Create a Marquette of sculpture with clay
- Begin to build up plinth with wet newspaper - foil and gladwrap
DAY 2
- Practise making eyes, ears, nose and mouth (these can be fired as a piece of art)
- Start building your sculpture on the plinth
DAY 3
- Work on detail of head- eyes, ear, mouth, ears, hair etc
DAY 4 AND DAY 5
- Complete the rest of the sculpture- neck, shoulders etc,
- Discuss various firing methods firing methods,
- Remove sculpture off plinth if firm enough
If there is time, you could also make a smaller sculpture not using a plinth
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU:
Pencil and notebook
Picture or photo of what you want to create
Any sculpture tools you have (some will be supplied)
Roll of glad wrap and tin foil
A couple of newspapers
FIRING OPTIONS:
1. Use your own kiln for bisque and gloss firing
2. Bisque firing
3. Bisque and gloss firing (options 2 and 3 are for those with no access to kilns and would be an extra cost)
