Learn the science and the art of growing your own new plants from seeds, cuttings or other means. You will learn how to make your own propagating mixes and planting seeds or cuttings into them. Learn what to do to make them grow into strong plants. This is an exciting introduction into growing a garden with little or no expenditure.
As this is a hands-on workshop, please bring a pair of secateurs, a Stanley knife and a pair of gloves. We also highly recommend wearing a mask, but that is optional.
Course content will include:
The science of getting seeds and cuttings to grow.
Food storage in seeds, stems, roots.
Dormancy and triggers for growth:
Special seed preparation - stratification and scarification
Taking cuttings - hard wood, semi hard wood, soft wood, herbaceous growth, nodal and heel cuttings, growth hormones, cleanliness
Other methods - root cuttings, division, sucker growth, tubers, stolons, etc.
A few insights on why various media are selected: water retention, aeration, drainage, allowing root penetration and growth.

Planting seeds - various seed trays, pots, depth, moisture retention
Planting Cuttings -depth, length, exposing cambium, etc
Other simple vegetative propagation to be explained and shown- bulbs, stolons, roots, etc.
