This fun workshop will take you step by step to set up a 4 shaft table loom ready to weave a narrow width fabric.
Following a hands-on demonstration, you can select your colours, and then design and make a warp using a warping board or drum. There will be a wide variety of colours, fibres and textures to choose from. You will ‘dress’ the loom (raddle, wind, thread, sley and tie on).
After setting up your loom, you will be taught a few different techniques to weave small fabric samples using a relaxed and intuitive method of weaving. Depending on which fibres you select, the woven fabric can later be made into coasters, washcloths or a perhaps small scarf/cowl.
If you have a specific end-use for your fabric, please let the tutor know in advance to see if this is possible within the time frame. If you live close by, and are still weaving at the end of day 2, you may wish to borrow the loom to finish your scarf at home and return it to the tutor (in central Nelson) the following week.
No previous experience necessary, just a willingness and openness to learn and create.
Materials cost is $20 per person, payable to the tutor.
