The Seven Last Words of Christ - Joseph Haydn

On Good Friday, Auckland’s Jade String Quartet present Joseph Haydn’s Seven Last Words of Christ. This is a profound and moving piece; a series of musical reflections that comment on each of the words that Christ said as he hung being crucified on the Cross. They are poignant sentiments, beautifully expressed by Haydn through the intimacy of the string quartet genre. It will be a rare and moving experience to hear this masterwork in its original church setting, all the more so for it being in St Matthew-in-the-City, with its beautiful interior and acoustic.
