AKL Heritage Festival 2023: Re-enactment: 130 years of women’s suffrage

130 years ago this year, women in Aotearoa won the right to vote by presenting a petition to parliament that was over 270 meters long! Come to Mt Roskill Library to commemorate this amazing feat through re-enactment.

Attendees, accompanied by library staff, will deliver a replica ‘petition’ to the Puketāpapa Women’s Suffrage Memorial in Wahine Toa Park (a 5min walk from our library). Everyone is encouraged to come dressed up and act the part!

This event will be educational for the whole family, with suffrage-inspired speeches being delivered in character! Re-enactment is a great way to connect to protests of the past, so that we can learn how to fight for our future.
