Good Governance:
Based on the philosophy that good governance is a victory not a gift, Sandy Thomson from LEAD will explore with Whangārei communities how board conversations about good governance within their own particular context and culture make a board effective. Drawing on experience, local examples and researched evidence, Sandy will share tools and processes to engrain these important conversations in boards to ensure organisations are well managed and led.

A belief in the power of strong communities has led Sandy to pursue a career as a trainer, consultant, and coach in the community and not for profit sector. She has been working and volunteering in the not-for-profit Sector since she was a volunteer youth leader here in Whangārei in the 1970’s. Sandy’s experience as a leader in the not-for-profit sector and her wealth of experience facilitating and mentoring other leaders has made her a governance guru in demand.

Whether you are a new or experienced board member or aspire to join a board of a community organisation, Sandy has a few tips for you to takeaway and up-skill your governance leadership capabilities. Interested in a more in-depth session? Sandy will cover where to go for more support and how to get a little more of her wisdom locally through Volunteering Northland’s short courses on governance.
