First Tuesday

Join us for our July First Tuesday concert, which is on Tuesday 04 July, 12.10pm-1.00pm.

This concert features our very own St. Matthew's Voices vocal ensemble (Celia Aspey-Gordon, soprano, Matthew Howes, alto, Nathan Hauraki, tenor and Blake Scanlen, bass) led by Nicholas Forbes, Director of Music.

They will perform a concert of sublime choral and solo vocal music by the great English composer William Byrd (1540-1623) marking the 400th anniversary of his death, which falls exactly on this date. Byrd lived through the tumultuous religious upheavals of the Reformation. The centerpiece of this concert will be his haunting and intimate Mass for Four Voices, written to be sung in secret, when the Catholic mass was banned in Elizabethan England.
