Artist Neke Moa will be in conversation with Paula Conroy, tohunga and kaupapa collaborator. View a slideshow of recent work, and join them for a discussion of the stories underpinning the work and how collaborations inform and shape their mahi toi.

Moa says "Creating toi/art is a collaboration. Between materials, kaupapa/stories, tohunga, atua and tāngata. With me the maker, tinana, wairua, mauri and whanau responding and reacting, through activation."

Artist Biography
Neke Moa is an adornment and object artist, predominantly working with Pounamu (NZ nephrite jade) and collected materials. She is based at Otaki beach, Aotearoa (NZ). Her work explores our connections within the spaces of the seen and unseen, the place where wairua resides and creativity is sourced.

She collaborates with tohunga, atua and tāngata presenting visual stories that navigate Aotearoa’s cultural, social, and political landscape. Moa has exhibited widely and has been a part of the handshake project since its inception in 2010, exhibiting in Europe, London, Asia and Australasia.

She is a graduate of Te Wānanga-ō-Raukawa and Whitireia NZ majoring in jewellery design. Moa has taught shell craft in Fiji and Tonga from 2016 until 2020 and continues to teach and learn as part of her art practice.
