Memories of Middlemore Tea & Topics - 17 October 2023

Middlemore Hospital has been an imposing feature of the local community since its inception in 1947. First designed for the military it became surplus to requirements as the war in the Pacific came to an end and was taken over by the Auckland Hospital Board to fill the needs of a local community growing about it. In 2022 it celebrated its 75th birthday, and Rhys Bean, a local resident and radiographer was present at this ceremony.
She has some wonderful memories of her 50 plus years at Middlemore, its physical growth, and of the medical staff who were leaders in their fields and instigators of the growing changes in medicine during their tenure at Middlemore and so laid the foundations of the excellent hospital it is today.
