Motat Live Day: Rail

Full steam ahead this November for a day filled with history, excitement and plenty of trains!

Our three operational steam locomotives, F-180 Meg Merrilies, L507 and Y542, will be proudly steaming along the tracks, providing trips throughout the day between Waitītiko and Keith Park Platforms every 20 minutes.

Young rail enthusiasts can have a go at the coal loading obstacle course, T-shirt screen printing, or making their own personalised express boarding pass and steam train.

Our passionate and knowledgeable team of volunteers and staff will be on hand to share the history of these incredible powerhouses of early rail. There will be plenty of rail fun for the whole whānau!

We recommend starting your journey at the Aviation Hall and enjoy the free heritage tram ride between both locations.
