Auckland Clef Music Club’s October concert will mainly feature music from the movies.
This music will take us from the era of the earlier black and white films right through to the technicolour and digital extravaganzas of more recent years —some being screen versions of earlier staged musicals, others being films in their own right, with memorable integral music scores.
Many of the “musical theatre” composers are represented here, along with others whom we might associate more readily with the “popular“ and “movie music” genres (and a few surprises too) —Something for everyone!
Performing for us this month will be:
• Anthony Blaschke – Bass Baritone
• Rosemarie Brown – Soprano
• Naomi Browne – Mezzo
• Anne Shanks – Soprano
• Jessica Sharp – Soprano
—with accompanists Graeme Fuller and Judy King
The Concert will also include the full three movements of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto in Eb major, performed by invited guest trumpet player:
• Peter REID —accompanied on piano by Camila De Oliveira
This particular concert evening will commence with the Club’s Annual General Meeting followed by a short interval and then the Concert itself.
Our AGM is never a lengthy affair and non-Member visitors wishing to attend the Concert should note that they are most welcome to enter the venue and sit in on the AGM until the Concert starts.
The Concert, as usual, will conclude with a generous supper —all included in the $10 ticket-price.
Clef Club’s concerts are held at the Fickling Centre venue, occurring from February through to November —normally on the third Tuesday of the month.
For those keen on hearing mainly classical vocal and instrumental music on a regular basis and at reasonable cost, this is the place for you!
We welcome your participation, especially if you are a singer or instrumentalist looking for performance opportunities. We are also keen to attract accompanists willing to support our vocalists and instrumentalists in their performances. However, new audience members who simply want to enjoy hearing others make music, are always appreciated as well.
Our new 2023-2024 Season Subscription commences in November, so this an ideal time to come along and see what we’re about, before joining.
