The SCAPE Public Art Education Programme is a popular annual event offering free educational art experiences for people around Waitaha Canterbury. This year, the programme is once again giving young people and community groups the chance to engage with art, work with a local artist, and participate in unique art-making activities.

The Community Engaged Artist for the 2023 SCAPE season is Priscilla Rose Howe, an Ōtautahi artist whose striking figurative artworks draw on cinematic influences and explore ideas around queerness. Sessions with Priscilla and SCAPE’s Education and Community Engagement Manager, Sarah Ackerley, will be held during the spring school holidays at The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora’s Maker Workshop.

These free workshops offer an opportunity to explore creative thinking and develop new understanding of public artworks. Participants will get to create their own artwork inspired by Priscilla’s work, learn some awesome new skills, and gain knowledge about how an artist approaches their practice.

Venue: Maker Workshop
Spaces are strictly limited, so early booking is encouraged. Contact sarah@scapepublicart.org.nz to find out more.

This event is part of The Arts Centre's School Holiday Fun (23 Sep - 8 Oct), a lively programme bursting with loads of creative events and activities to spark imagination and entertain pre-schoolers through to teens.
