Adult Violin Class for Beginners. Never learned an instrument as a child but always wanted to? Now's your chance.

Term 1 is kicking off at the Mt. Eden War Memorial Hall with eight spots available.

Led by experienced tutors, Lydia Sewell and Nathan Pickney, you'll learn the basics of violin playing

What you can expect to learn:

-The various parts of the violin and bow
-How to hold the violin and bow
-How to make a good sound
-The 3 principles of sound production
-How to play open strings
-How to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star + Variations

By the end of the term, you will be able to play your first few songs on the violin resulting in an end of term recital with your classmates.

What you’ll need:
Violin, Shoulder Rest, Violin Case, Bow, Rosin, Cloth ( for cleaning)
Essential Elements Violin Book 1.
A Music Stand

Cost: $540 for the term
Time: 6:30pm-8pm
Location: Chamber Room, Mt. Eden War Memorial Hall.
Parking located off Brixton Road.

About your Tutors:

Lydia Sewell is a Kiwi-American violinist from Madison, WI. Currently a violinist for the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in New Zealand, Ms. Sewell, previously was an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and has played with the Pittsburgh Ballet, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Illinois Philharmonic, Illinois Symphony among others. In 2017, she received her Masters in Violin Performance on full scholarship from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she served as both Concertmaster and Principal Second.Ms. Sewell maintains an active teaching studio in Auckland, and has been teaching for over ten years.

Nathan Pinkney studied violin under Stephen Larsen at the University of Auckland, and now teaches a full schedule of both private and group classes. From 2020/2022 he was violist in the Troubadour Program run by Adam Chamber Music Festival, and in 2020 he was awarded the audience choice award at the Gisborne International music competition on violin. Nathan Pinkney has been teaching violin in Auckland for 5 years and is violin/viola tutor with the Tironui Music Trust.
