To be a Christian is to be an exile. The Bible has a name for the country we’ve been exiled to: Babylon. As exiles living in Babylon, we need to think biblically, Christianly - like exiles -through the tricky cultural and political issues we face today.

Brought to you by Theology in the Raw, a collective of churched and dechurched Christian contrarians who resist the echo chamber, love Jesus, are addicted to grace, and seek to live authentically and counterculturally as exiles in Babylon.

Hosted by Dr Preston Sprinkle, the founder and president of the Center for Faith, Sexuality, and Gender. He is a New York Times-bestselling author who's written more than a dozen books, including Does the Bible support same-sex marriage, Embodied, People to Be Loved, Living in a Gray World, Scandalous Grace, Non-violence and many more titles. Preston and his wife Chris, live in Boise, Idaho, with their 3 daughters and 1 son.

The conference itself is being held in Boise, Idaho two weeks earlier. Rather than all of us fly over there to attend in person (enjoyable as that would be), we’ve brought it to Auckland! All the sessions are being recorded, so we can benefit from these excellent sessions for the fraction of the cost.

Here’s a quick overview of our sessions:

On Friday night, there will be a discussion on Deconstruction, Reconstruction, and the Gospel, with Dr. Abigail Favale (Notre Dame), Ameen Hudson (Southside Rabbi Podcast), Tim Whitaker (The New Evangelicals), and Evan Wickham (pastor, songwriter, and worship leader for Exiles).

On Saturday morning, we’ll dive into the vital and sensitive topic of Women, Power, and Abuse in the Church, with Dr. Juli Slattery (author, speaker), Dr. Sandy Richter (Westmont College), Tiffany Bluhm (author, speaker), and Laurie Krieg (author, speaker).

On Saturday afternoon, we will tackle how the church can welcome and include LGBTQ people in a way that’s theologically faithful. Dr. Greg Coles (author, speaker), Brenna Blain (author, speaker), Art Pereira (Revoice), and Kat LaPrairie will guide us through this discussion as we seek to embody the truth and grace of Jesus.

FREE BONUS SESSION: 7pm Thursday night 2 May
Symposium on the Theology and Politics of Israel-Palestine. Daniel Bannoura (scholar, podcaster), Mike Cosper (author, speaker), Dr Gary Burge (scholar, author) and Dr Richard Harvey (scholar, author) will help us navigate this timely and important topic.
