A ten-week evening class, suitable for aspiring and early-career playwrights!
Between practical group sessions and one-to-one tutorials, writers will complete a ten-minute play to be shared in a public reading at Pitt Street Theatre at the end of the course.
Paul Kalburgi's Introduction to Playwriting course provides a stimulating and inspiring introduction to the craft of playwriting, delivered by a working playwright and experienced tutor. Through weekly workshops based on Paul's book, The Writer’s Toolkit, sessions cover the fundamental elements of playwriting, including dramatic structure, the creation and function of character, how to write dynamic dialogue, crafting a compelling plot, and much more.
Outside the group sessions, participants will apply the skills learnt to write a ten-minute play, benefitting from two private online tutoring sessions to advance their drafts ahead of a public reading at the end of the course. Participants will complete the course armed with a fully developed ten-minute play, plus a toolkit of tricks and devices to inspire future work.
Limited to 10 people aged 18 years and over.
Unfortunately, the Dojo space is not wheelchair accessible
Previous course participants say…
“A great course, with a skilled and knowledgeable instructor. This will drive you to create plays, and better them!”
"Do it! If you ever have an idea to write and need help getting started, or if you write all the time and need to infuse some passion into what you do - Paul is the person to help. His writing prompts and exercises will spark your imagination and get you going down the right path - I'm so fired up!"
"I couldn’t recommend this course more... Paul's wealth of knowledge is exceptional, and the fact you get a public play reading out of it as well is incredible. It also helped me immensely as an actor - the entire writing process through to the table read and public reading."
