In this one night only show, Juanita Hepi invites various kā toi Māori practitioners to explore and respond to various texts from NZ authors. Many of which portray absurd, dystopian and segregated futures. Kā Mōrehu is a multi-narrative, multi-layered and multi-disciplinary performance work created especially for Off Centre Festival.

Artist Bio
Juanita Hepi (Kāi Tahu, Ngātiwai, Moriori, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahungunu) is a multi-form storyteller and storymaker. In 2023 her projects included; the Opening Parade and A Baby Called Sovereignty for Off Centre Festival, Matariki Around The World for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra Presents series, Hine Hōia for Chamber Music NZ, The World's First Lovers premiere at Kia Mau festival, Proudly Asian Theatre's Fresh Off The Page Aotearoa series, and the opening of Te Whare Tapere, a new house of Indigenous storytelling at Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre. She has 3 children and they are story makers too. In this new work, Juanita invites various kā toi Māori practitioners to explore various NZ texts with her, and together they'll devise a response.


This event is part of Off Centre, an arts festival that shows off the best of Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre – eclectic, exuberant, accessible. With around 40 events, the place will be filled with music, comedy, theatre, and vibrant entertainment. One day, two nights, it's all happening on the 8-9 March 2024.
