Matangi Factory Tours 10.30 and 1pm

As part of the Waikato District Council heritage Day there will be two tours held of the Matangi Dairy Factory, 452 Tauwhare Road, Matangi – 10.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. No need to book, assemble at the Bootleg Brewery on the Factory site.

A highlight of this historic site dating, as a Dairy Factory from 1885 to 1987, is the Glaxo Building that was opened in 1919. Designed by the well-known Hamilton architect Frederick Charles Daniell (1879-1953), the building is architecturally significant for its use of new materials and techniques of construction in reinforced concrete. It belonged to the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company Limited Factory, forerunner of Fonterra, that began in Matangi, the heart of the Waikato.
