Tūngia te ururua kia tupu whakaritorito te tupu o te harakeke.
Set the overgrown bush alight and the new flax shoots will spring up.

Nau mai haere mai, all are welcome to attend an introduction and how to harvest, prepare and kohua preservation of your harakeke.

This will allow you to graduate from beginners to intermediate classes but is also ano opportunity for you to join our koha style winter course.

Led by Frank Topia (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Haua) with Linda Lee (Ngāti Kurī, Ngāi Tākoto, Te Rarawa, Te Aupōri, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Huia) and kaiāwhina (helpers).

We will start with tikanga and harvesting as well as storage. You will walk away with woven taonga at the end of this class no matter what level of learner you are.

If you are a beginner and/or we are harvesting for you please try to book at least three days in advance as we can only harvest in certain weather conditions.

NOTE: IF CLASS NUMBERS ARE TOO LOW, WE MAY HAVE TO CANCEL SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS BEFORE CLASS. (We will be able to transfer of refund your tickets.)

No experience is required.

Please arrive on time for karakia (blessing).

Light refreshments will be provided and you are welcome to bring shared kai.

Children over 10 please and if under 14 should be accompanied by an adult with a ticket.

Occasionally, we will be moved to the Tāne Whakapirpiri Visitor's Centre due to other bookings. Please refer to website (upcoming classes) where venues will be specified for the class.
