Classic Hits Winery Tour 2013

Civic Events, promoter of the annual Classic Hits Winery Tour is proud to reveal the line up for the 2013 Summer Tour: Headliners are the Wellington based seven-piece masters of dub, reggae, soul and RnB - Fat Freddy’s Drop, joined by the sensational Anika Boh & Hollie: Together in Concert and another collaboration of equally legendary kiwi musicians, The Adults, featuring Jon Toogood, Julia Deans and Shayne Carter.

Now in its 7th year, the 2013 Classic Hits Winery Tour presents 17 shows across 16 spectacular outdoor venues from Tutukaka in the North to Dunedin in the South, including the Tour’s 100th show, a milestone that will be celebrated at Black Barn Vineyards in Havelock North in the Hawke’s Bay on February 8.

Since emerging from the underground club scene of Wellington in 1999, Fat Freddy’s Drop has carved a place in NZ music lore; the highest selling album ever by an independent artist (2005’s Based On A True Story), a slew of RIANZ Tui Awards & legendary performances at internationally acclaimed festivals including Glastonbury, Sonar, Bestival, Womad, Lowlands, Demf and Roskilde.

With their third studio album, Blackbird, due for release in February 2013, Fat Freddy’s Drop will be bringing something special and unforgettable to the Wineries in 2013. And keep an ear out for the first single off the forthcoming album, due for release in November.

Filling the middle music slot and fresh from their inaugural Tour as Anika Boh & Hollie, the girls have shown that as formidable as they are individually, together in concert they are quite simply a musical force.

The threesome is set to enchant audiences with their incredible harmony singing and wicked banter. Expect a raft of well known hits from Anika Moa, Boh Runga and Hollie Smith who will again perform together – singing their own and each other’s hits, as well as new material from their forthcoming debut album, also to be released in February 2013.

Completing the three-band line up are The Adults with Shihad’s Jon Toogood at the helm, joined by Fur Patrol’s Julia Deans and Dimmer’s Shayne Carter. The Adults’ eponymous debut album has just received two finalist nods at this year’s RIANZ New Zealand Music Awards (Album Of The Year & Single Of The Year) and their powerful live performances will kick off the shows in some style.

Chris Faiumu aka DJ Fitchie says he and fellow Freddys can’t wait to hit the road in February:

"We can't wait for the Winery Tour". Freddys will be celebrating the release of our new album ‘Blackbird’ and I’m sure the audiences will enjoy the energy in our performances. To tour New Zealand outside of the main centres is a rare opportunity and we won't be taking it lightly.

“The venues that we are playing are an amazing environment to hear our music. And this year’s line up is fantastic – edgy and dynamic.  It’s a great way to kick off the year."

Boh Runga says she, Anika and Hollie couldn't be happier to be getting back on the road together after the fun they have just had on the Church Tour:

“We are all a bit more comfortable in wineries so these shows can only get bigger & better. We are very excited & with a line up like this, how could you go wrong?”'

Jon Toogood agrees:

"Totally looking forward to The Winery Tour in February. Get to see some beautiful parts of the country with good people and great music. What's not to love?”

Co-promoter Campbell Smith is looking forward to next year’s Tour and promises concert-goers an unforgettable experience:

“Summer wouldn’t be summer without the Classic Hits Winery Tour and once more we are looking forward to getting out and touring the most beautiful concert locations around New Zealand.

“In our 7th year and celebrating our 100th show, we have another incredible line up of New Zealand's favourite artists, it's surely going to be another epic tour in 2013. We can’t wait!"

With 17 shows on offer across 16 spectacular outdoor venues, this is the biggest tour in New Zealand.
