Cypress Hill Joins Raggamuffin Lineup

Iconic American hip-hop group Cypress Hill will be performing at reggae festival Raggamuffin, which is now taking place in Auckland at Trusts Arena.

The 'Insane in the Brain' rappers will join fellow US hip-hop legend Ice Cube and British reggae royalty UB40 as headliners for the festival. The three founding members of UB40 (Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue) have reunited and will be performing all of the hits from 'Red Red Wine' right up to their latest releases.

Other acts confirmed to be playing at Raggamuffin are Che Fu & The Kratez, Chronixx, Fiji, Etana, Gappy Ranks (with P-Money), Katchafire, Aaradnha, Sons of Zion, Mai FM’s DJ Sirvere and JAfA MAfiA Crew + guests including Silva, Jah Red Lion, Israel Starr and MC Hlats, Sammy Johnson featuring Brownhill, House of Shem and Tomorrow People.

In order to accommodate the larger lineup, the festival will now be utilising two stages, while remaining a one-day festival.

The final line-up for Raggamuffin VIII has been released with the iconic Cypress Hill joining fellow US hip-hop legend Ice Cube and British reggae royalty UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro & Mickey Virtue as headliners for the festival.

Other acts confirmed to join the line-up include NZ Pacific Music Award lifetime achievement inductee Che Fu & The Kratez, reggae favourites Sons of Zion, Mai FM’s DJ Sirvere and JAfA MAfiA Crew + guests including Silva, Jah Red Lion, Israel Starr and MC Hlats.

Organisers have also announced Raggamuffin VIII will take place at The Trusts Arena, Auckland on Saturday 13 December with early bird tickets going on sale from Friday 22 August.

One of the biggest hip-hop acts of the last decade, Cypress Hill have sold more than 18 million albums worldwide and continue to be a major influence among urban artists around the globe.

Joining them on the bill is previously announced headliners UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, who will play new music alongside all-time favourites such as ‘Red Red Wine’ and Ice Cube (C.I.A and N.W.A) who will perform his distinctively honest style of rap, and prolific and often political lyrics.

The full line-up includes Kingston reggae revolutionist Chronixx, leading Pacific reggae artist Fiji, Jamaica’s Etana, dancehall musician Gappy Ranks – who will play a set with New Zealand’s own P-Money - and more local favourites including Katchafire, Aaradhna with full band, Sammy Johnson featuring Brownhill, House of Shem and Tomorrow People.

Raggamuffin VIII will also feature a vibrant village market area, with entertainment curated by reggae/dancehall sound system JAfA MAfiA Crew + guests including Silva, Jah Red Lion, Israel Starr and MC Hlats.

Raggamuffin has also traditionally supported New Zealand youth charities and Raggamuffin VIII will once again be supporting Y for Youth which provides vital assistance to a range of New Zealand youth organisations. 

Raggamuffin VIII takes place on Saturday 13 December at The Trusts Arena, Auckland.

Pre-sale tickets are available from Tuesday 19 August by registering at the Raggamuffin website.

Early bird tickets are on sale to the general public from Friday 22 August until Tuesday 2 September through Ticketmaster.
