This year's Auckland Diwali Festival promises to be an enlightening experience, with celebrations taking place over the weekend of October 11-12th.
The event known as the 'Festival of Lights' is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated over a night between mid-October and mid-November. Auckland's festivities give the local Indian community an opportunity to come together and celebrate the happiest holiday of their year and for other New Zealanders to learn more about Indian culture, delving deep into the sights, sounds, tastes and traditions of the region.
Regular highlights of the festival include on stage and street performances from over 100 national and international groups, 50 food and craft stalls the Radio Tarana Bollywood Dance competition and the Barfoot & Thompson Fireworks Finale on Sunday night.
The event runs from midday to 9pm in Aotea Square, Aotea Centre and on Queen street in Central Auckland.
