Randy Hansen's "Rock Tribute Act" honouring Jimi Hendrix will be performing a masterclass in Hendrix in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland.Hansen's with his high energy guitar playing has a reputation as one of the best Hendrix tribute acts in the world. He is also one of the few players officially recognised by the Hendrix family. Randy has been stunning audiences worldwide as he channels the spirit of Jimi and perfectly recreates the stage presence and skill of the legendary axe man.
Aside from his loyal fan base, Hansen’s guitar work is respected throughout the music business. He’s played alongside some of the greats, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Miller, Paul Rodgers, Herbie Hancock, and original Jimi Hendrix Experience members Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell… Also original Band Of Gypsies members Buddy Miles and Billy Cox. 3. I read that you have played with Stevie Ray Vaughan and that he was also your good friend what was that like both playing with him and knowing him?
Stevie Ray Vaughan is known as one of the most influential electric guitarists in history Randy states “it was great to know him” Randy also wrote a song written about him called "Texas Twister" which is from the Old Dogs New Tricks CD
4. Apart from Jimi Hendrix who else has heavily influenced your playing style?
Various artist with various styles in no particular order, Richie Blackmore [deep purple], Jeff Beck (inducted into the Rock in Roll Hall of Fame twice], Joe Walsh [The Eagles], Pete Townsend [the Who].
5. What gear do you use to get that perfect Hendrix sound?
“Sorry that’s a secret”, Get to the gig early so you can get a nice viewing spot and maybe, just maybe you can get some insight
6. What has been the most amazing musical experience in your life?
“Seeing the who live” The Who being one of the most influential rock bands of all time selling over 1 million records with Pete Townsend style influencing Randy's style and showmanship.
7. Do you prefer the Stratocaster guitar over a Gibson guitar?
