Christchurch Symphony Orchestra 2015 Season
We are delighted to bring to you our 2015 Concert Season and in true CSO character the year is full of great orchestral masterpieces, outstanding local and international soloists and plenty of surprises.
We invite you to join us in welcoming our new Chief Conductor Benjamin Northey and Concertmaster Martin Riseley to the CSO family who together with our talented musicians will form an extraordinary ensemble.
The CSO is immensely proud of our place in this city and within the wider community. We are totally committed to ensuring that people of all ages and walks of life have the opportunity to experience live instrumental music be it through our concert performances or beyond the stage with our extensive outreach and education programme.
As an orchestra we always embrace the opportunity to collaborate with others and in 2015 we have an impressive line-up with highlights that include NZ icons of pop and rock Anika Moa and Julia Deans, Jazz legend James Morrison’s A to Z of Jazz, a co-presentation with the NZ International Jazz & Blues Festival, and in what is sure to be a milestone for the orchestra, the premiere of a concerto for Taonga puoro (traditional M āori instruments) performed by Ariana Tikao and Philip Brownlee in collaboration with Dr Richard Nunns.
We are also looking forward to continuing to work in partnership with the Christchurch City Choir, the National Concerto Competition, NZ Opera and the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
Our players are at the heart of this orchestra each one with their own special connection within this community. As part of the Baroque Festival we are delighted to showcase the wonderful Anthony Ferner, Helen Webby and Thomas Eves as soloists.
We are fortunate to have the loyalty, passion and belief of our sponsors, funders, donors and patrons – you continue to inspire us to do what we do.
Enjoy the season and we look forward to seeing you along the way
