The Banks Peninsula Walking Festival will be on in November 2016 again. The Walking Festival celebrates the stunning scenery and intimate communities of Banks Peninsula. The walks will take place over 4 weekends from 5-26 November.

The event is designed by local people who love to share their passion for this special place with people from the wider community. Participants will enjoy a refreshing walk and are guaranteed an enjoyable experience as they relax, meet new people and together absorb the stories and atmosphere of this rugged land, right on the doorstep of Christchurch.

Discover the taonga of Banks Peninsula with our experienced volunteer guides who have a passion for the land, ecology, history and communities of this unique part of Canterbury.

We are pleased to present several special interest walks: Dog’s Day Out, Sketch-a-Walk, Photogenic Whakaraupō, Parent and Baby Walk, Penguins of Godley Head, Quail Island Campout and The Bridle Path Revisited (period costume optional). In addition, we are facilitating self-guided overnight walks for youth groups at the Packhorse Hut, Rod Donald Hut or Hinewai Lodge to encourage teenagers to get out into nature.

We are also delighted to be part of the Rod Donald Banks Peninsula Trust’s centenary celebrations for Harry Ell, the instigator of Te Ara Pātaka / Summit Walkway and the builder of the Packhorse Hut. Please join us in these celebrations during the last weekend of November.

Visit the website for the full list of walks and details on them: http://www.bankspeninsulawalks.co.nz/

You will receive an email from the Festival organiser with the meeting point for your walk.
