Dedicated to the one of the world's leading working preservation railways with some of New Zealand's best examples of great Kiwi Locomotive designs that made the world envious.

The Glenbrook Vintage Railway (GVR) operates over 7.5 kms of track from Glenbrook to Victoria Avenue in Waiuku with a further 500m extension onto Tamakae Reserve in Waiuku in the pipeline. We operate every weekend and most public holidays from Labour weekend to Queen's birthday weekend. Trains depart from Glenbrook every 90 minutes starting at 11:00 with the last train at 4:00pm. Passengers are welcome to alight at Victoria Avenue and explore the township of Waiuku and catch a later train back to Glenbrook.

The GVR houses many different types of unique locomotives ranging in size from 3 tonnes to 110 tonnes, steam and diesel. GVR prides itself with an extremely high standard of restoration, frequently winning special awards for locomotive, rolling stock and building restoration work. This is all carried out by a great bunch of volunteers from as young as 8 to as old as 80.

Day to day operations the GVR goes that extra mile to recreate the "Steam Theme" and help people understand and enjoy the great feeling everybody enjoyed of the sights, sounds and smells that can only be found when returning to the golden age of steam. All staff will greet you wearing the exact uniforms worn in that era. Feel free to ask the driver where the whistle is or where the fire is.

GVR has an extremely high standard of training and although we are all volunteers we have gone through some of the toughest training that their is to be offered and pride ourselves on operating a professional service for you to enjoy.

In addition to general operating days we also operate "Theme Days" such as
* Friends of Thomas the Tank
* Railroad Country and western day (with mock train robbers and shoot outs)
* Santa and mothers day specials
* Brass Era Day
* Railfans days
and much more.

So come on down and experience the magic that captured everyone's hearts in that golden era and enjoy the the thrill of a cab ride where you can watch man versus machine and watch the engine crew work the controls with complete mastery, enjoy the scenic farmland whilst listening to the classic "Clickety Clack" from the track and take in the adventure and romance that can only be found traveling behind a steam locomotive.
