The NBR New Zealand Opera presents the NZI Winter Season of Donizetti's
Lucia di Lammermoor

This passionate story of star-crossed lovers, based on Sir Walter Scott's The Bride of Lammermoor, is played out amid the wild landscapes of a Scotland split by blood-feuds.

In this brutal world, Lucia has fallen in love with Edgardo, whose family, the Ravenswoods, are the bitter enemies of her own. When her brother learns of the secret love affair, powerful forces begin to tighten on Lucia. The lovers are tricked and Lucia must agree to an arranged marriage with another man. Her dream shattered, Lucia is driven to a desperate act.

The stunning star of 2005's La Traviata, Elvira Fatykhova, returns to New Zealand's stages as Lucia. Creating this fresh production is award-winning director Lindy Hume, whose interpretations of a wide repertoire grace stages in Australia, Europe and North America. New Zealand's Kate Hawley, whose work on opera, drama and film created a demand for her designs overseas, makes an exciting return.

This new production is a must for anyone who loves opera in all its full-blooded glory.
