This historic Queen's Birthday event celebrates the 100th anniversary of New Zealand becoming a dominion and features the music of the nation's first professional composer, Alfred Hill (1869-1960). It also marks the centenary of the Dominion newspaper. Performers include soprano Timua Brennan, tenor John Beaglehole, bass Bruce Carson, the Orpheus Choir, the Dominion String Quartet, the Wellington Chamber Orchestra, the NZSM Chamber Orchestra and the Pelorus Trust Wellington Brass Band.

The main featured work, conducted by Michael Fulcher, is the "Commemorative Ode" which includes all 200+ performers on stage. The Ode was last performed a century ago in 1906 to open the Christchurch International Exhibition. The programme also includes three brass band pieces, selections from the Mass in Eb for choir and organ, Waiata Poi for soprano and string quartet, and String Quartet No. 2 "A Maori Legend". The event also marks the international launch of the NAXOS CD of the Dominion String Quartet playing Alfred Hill's String Quartets Nos 1, 2 and 3 .
