This is the first Masonic Blues Fest and is being run in conjunction with the Masonic Hotel in Devonport, Auckland and the New Zealand Jazz Education and Performance Society Inc. It is hoped that the event can become an annual festival to promote the blues and give opportunities to local blues band to perform. We look forward to welcoming you at the Masonic Blues Fest. THE HANDSOME GIANT BLUES SHOW
Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready to be blown away by New Zealand’s most exciting musical experience - the Handsome Giants. This unique power trio, blends old school Roots/Blues-music with electric Rock'n'Roll, creating an intense, yet intimate show. The band features Shayn ‘hurricane’ Wills (vocals, guitar, harmonica,) Bullfrog Rata (vocals, guitar ) and Freddy Limbert (vocals, drums;) some of the most experienced, young players in this country. Wanting a rawer and more real sound, they developed their own musical style, based on Blues, R&B and Rock’n’Roll, and put together a dynamite show to go with it. Because they draw from several traditional musical genres, the Handsome Giants have something for all lovers of music, of all ages. Fans of the sixties will recognize the power and energy; Blues enthusiasts will love the intricacy, yet simplicity of the musicianship. Beyond genres, this music is about good times - and having fun! Critically acclaimed and with passion, the Giants’ are opening eyes all over the country and abroad. Mentioning a few, this year the band is playing Australia’s prestigious “Broadbeach Blues Festival,” New Zealand’s “Brews, Blues & BBQ’s,” “Matakana Mountain Festival” and the ever popular “Montana Jazz Festival” in Tauranga.

The Rodger Fox Big Band – New Zealand’s leading big band and has toured with Midge Marsden, Chris Cain, Randy Crawford, Hammond Gamble to name a few and many of the players have been part of the band that supported the World Blues Revue tours.
Vocalist Erna Ferry has touring with the World Blues Revue along side Robben Ford and Long John Baldry. She has also recorded 3 CD’s with her second Cd featuring leading USA blues musicians Danny Caron, Dewayne Pate, Deszon Claiborne and Dave Mathews. Was also a special guest on the recently recorded New Zealand Blues Harmonic CD.
