This is no staid, dull poetry reading. Poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry where cash prizes are up for grabs. It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they’re saying and how they’re saying it. Poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience who are encouraged to respond through impassioned cheering or lusty booing. The combination of competition with poetry ensures a fun, inclusive and diverse experience for all.

Poets must follow a series of rules: the poems must be original, the poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments, and if the poet goes over the 3 minute time limit, points are deducted.
Entrants must be prepared to perform up to 3 pieces for each round. Register to read at the door on the night, but registrations are limited to 30, so first in, first served.
