In this powerful photographic exhibition, Michelle Hancock documents the regime of treatment bravely endured by young cancer patient Finlee. Running alongside the photographs are thoughts, feelings, and events, drawn from diaries and Finlee's treatment calendar. These provide a realistic account of what has been happening to her during treatment and open a window into Finlee’s world and that of the people close to her.

The experience of her devoted mother Sandy, living with the day-to-day reality of Finlee’s illness, is an important presence in and behind the works, as is the tireless effort made by the oncology staff at Starship Children’s Hospital. Living With Cancer is an exhibition that inspires. It demonstrates the resilience of the human spirit in the face of the overwhelming experience of child cancer. Finlee’s mother Sandy says it best:

As any of you will know who have had anything to do with cancer, but particularly child cancer, the immediate focus is all about surviving the first year - and Finlee has survived thus far, with grace and beauty, and with the admiration of the doctors and nurses who treat her. She's a favourite on the Oncology Ward for being so brave ... which, when you daydream about your child's life and your aspirations for them, is not exactly what you imagine you'll be bragging about! But she has made me a very proud mother. We are living with cancer.

This is a community event in support of the Starship Foundation. Donations towards the rebuild of the oncology ward at Starship would be much appreciated.
