Presented by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra

Kirill Karabits - conductor
Susana Stefani-Caetani - piano

Mahler claimed that “a symphony should create a world” and his awe-inspiring fifth symphony – under the baton of Kirill Karabits – takes us on a magnificent and epic journey from despair and longing to love and life. The adagietto contains some of the most beautiful music he wrote, a tribute to his beloved wife. Prefacing the symphony will be Bartók’s first Piano Concerto, played by Susanna Stefani-Caetani, whose electrifying performance of this work unleashes its pounding energy and eerie magnetism.

Free pre-concert talk 7pm in stalls.

Bartok - Piano Concerto No. 1
