Are eco bulbs killing Edison’s star?
At a time where global warming and a potential power crisis are hot topics, Whitford artist Richard Boyd-Dunlop has been observing human behaviours and coming out with a few theories of his own, “It occurred to me that with everyone rushing out to buy eco bulbs to do their bit for the planet, we will be saying goodbye to the light bulb as the great Thomas Edison originally invented. That struck me as a rather sad paradox; here we are trying to do a good deed and in turn doing a disservice to one of history's greatest minds.”
It is observations such as this that are on display in Richard's latest art exhibition, Global Stomp at the Aesthete Gallery in Parnell. His pieces aren't pro or anti global warming, they are simply his way of providing social commentary and provoking internal dialogue or friendly debate.
An award-winning artist, Richard is an experienced acrylic painter who has hosted a number of exhibitions locally and internationally. His pieces are known for their explosions of colour and a sense of humour which can belie the deliberateness and skilful balance of the designs.
