The Honouring Theatre Festival premieres on our shores in June 2008, weaving together the very best of North American Indian, Australian Aboriginal and Maori theatre.

Twisting and pulling at the many issues that face indigenous nations, Native Earth, Yirra Yaakin and Tawata Productions, offer a unique opportunity for New Zealand audiences to engage in these issues through storytelling.

He Reo Aroha – Tawata Productions
From an early age Kaia had trained to sing, she was groomed for greatness.

Pascoe sang, with his father, he was groomed to work on the fishing boats. When the teenagers meet at a high school party one warm summer's night, their voices create a love that remains with them for a lifetime. A moment where love is music, music is love.

The next day Kaia leaves to begin a singing career abroad, to the sultry clubs and bars of Europe, leaving behind her whanau, and the boy of her dreams for a life of privilege and prestige. Pascoe has another path, following in his father’s footsteps, a boat of his own, a wedding to his childhood sweetheart and children for a life of hard work and family.

However the life set before both Kaia and Pascoe does not appear to be all that it seems, with desperation, manipulation and loneliness turning their worlds upside down and ultimately bringing the once young lovers together again.
