The last chance for New Zealanders to catch acclaimed raw blues and spirituals duo Storehouse in their 2008 NZ summer season. Following numerous jumping shows at the Wine Cellar in Auckland, and the occasional foray to the capital, guitarist Tom Rodwell returns to the US and European circuits. The act has been in demand since they arrived back from a 33-date world tour in 2007, confounding listeners' expectations of blues music.

UK-based singer/guitarist Tom Rodwell returned to NZ with an esoteric repertoire of slave-era spirituals and work-songs, transformed with the help of bassist Joe Pineapple and occasional guests into stomping, hypnotic improvisations that reveal new depths to a music too often thought of as fusty. Their music is raw, agitating, and never less than entertaining and danceable.

More information:

Time Out: "Edgy, funky & visceral."

Blues in London: "Seemingly without trying Tom Rodwell manages to eschew the cliches that beset a lot of blues music. By turns wild, angry, hypnotic and sensual, it's as uncompromising as it is funky and some of the best live music I've seen in a long time."

Michael Pickett (Juno Award winner): "Real groove, no pretension, zero bullsh*t, that is rare it seems."

Otis Taylor (Grammy Award nominee, Handy Award Winner): “Thanks for making my job a lot harder man.”
