Green Fire Islands presents a dynamic and cutting edge musical dialogue between two island nations, oceans apart but sharing a deep, spirited musicality.

Inspired by a tour to New Zealand by Dónal Lunny, one of the most important catalysts of the renaissance of traditional Irish music, this unique fusion celebrates time-honoured Celtic and Maori music.
Something of a legend in Ireland, Lunny has assembled a stellar ensemble of 14 of the leading lights of both contemporary and traditional musical circles from Ireland and Aotearoa.
Bouzouki, uilleann pipes, the fiddle and sean nos singing meet and meld with waiata, taonga puoro and kapa haka.

Green Fire Islands features NZ singer Whirimako Black, taongo puoro master Richard Nunns joined by Horomona Horo, percussionist Trinity Roots’s Riki Gooch, poet Glenn Colquhoun and the Irish fiddler Nollaig Casey, sean-nos singer Iarla Oí Lionaird, harpist Laoise Kelly, guitarist Steve Cooney, piper Sean McKeon and of course the bouzouki master Donal Lunny.

Green Fire Islands joins the Womad Festival before heading to Auckland to close the tour with a show at the Aotea Centre on St Patricks Day.
