The Legendary day/nighter Music Festival is back at the famous Basin Reserve, Wellington!

Midday to Midnight, Easter Saturday 2nd March 2008.

Music is the new sport, and Sandwiches selectors have picked a world class team of big hitters to play across multiple stages, jamming bootlegs and classic cuts, and smashing original soul, funk and drum ‘n’ bass for six on Easter Saturday.

Bringing the carnival flavor from London to Wellington will be NORMAN JAY the superstar of Notting Hill Carnival and ‘the deejay’s DJ’ who was awarded an MBE no less for ‘deejaying and services to music’.

SHAPESHIFTER (NZ), top-form players at Sandwiches SummerSet last year and winners of ‘Best Dance/Electronica Album’ at the NZ Music Awards for Soulstice, return to the squad for another thunderous hit out.

“Summerset is one of those rare opportunities to party in the middle of the city and feel like you could be in someone’s back yard. Really looking forward to this year, especially being that it is our last Wellington gig for the year! See you there. Peace” Shapeshifter synth and sax player Devin Abrams says.

Another UK representative getting the Basin boogie on is CRAZY PENIS, you can call them Crazy P. This live band and DJ collective feature four gentlemen and a lady who cultivate soulful, electronic and trip-hop music that’s taking worldwide audiences by storm.

Three pioneering electronic producers and DJ’s from the UK bring a wealth of heavyweight experience to the squad, led by LTJ BUKEM, Good Looking Records hero and innovator of jungle and breakbeat with sidekick and lyrical don, MC CONRAD. DAVE SEAMAN from UK phenomenon Renaissance, one of the most in-demand producers and DJs in the big-ego world of club music, is on the squad performing in a NZ excusive, while TOM MIDDLETON, DJ & producer of Cosmos Records returns to the Basin where he played a magical innings in 2007. Expect more eclectic and genuine music love from Middleton, the pinch-hitter at the death.

Dubstep outfit, DIGITAL MYSTIKZ (UK), will take the sub base where no one else can with deep bass frequencies to rattle chests and expand minds.

Welli dubsters and reggae stalwarts THE BLACK SEEDS who recently signed to Berlin’s Sonar Kollektiv label are on the main stage for a rare local performance, as are another Capital City favourite, RHOMBUS, spreading a hip-hop, soul, dub and bass roots reggae vibe, rapped in conscious lyrics, to the people.

Expect a rockin’ experience from electronic breakbeat three piece MINUIT, while OPENSOULS, featuring dynamite diva Tyra Hammond, will turn it up with a kaleidoscopic blend of funk, hip-hop and soul music.

The fighting fit squad is topped off with TIMMY SCHUMACHER, B2B, DUNSTA WITH MC KYLA, JAKE SILVER & TAKAS. Match commentators for the day nighter will be DOWNTOWN BROWN & THE SUNSHINE SOUNDSYSTEM featuring MC’s KPZ, SWITCH and special guest JAN MAREE

“At the end of day when you break it all down and simplify the festival we are putting on a wicked party for everyone to enjoy” Sandwiches co-owner Bryce Mason says.
