Owen Scott’s intensely personal memoir "Deep Beyond the Reef" described his family’s colonial history in Fiji and framed it with his brother’s horrific murder. He looked at loss, the past, and to a remarkable degree, resolution.

Annie Goldson has recently completed a documentary feature, "An Island Calling", based in part on Owen's book. One of our leading documentarians, Annie’s prize-winning works include "Georgie Girl", "Punitive Damage" and "Elgar’s Enigma". Author and director talk about the pleasures and strains in realising a book on screen: when and how does the director become the ‘author’, and how does the originator feel about the transformation?

Chair: Peter Wells.
