The University of Auckland extends an open invitation to attend the Graduation Gala: Concerto Competition celebrating the success of the University's new graduates. The concert is also part of the University's 125th anniversary celebrations.

Following on from last year's wildly successful concert in Auckland's Town Hall, University of Auckland music students are gearing up for this prestigious event. This year's concert will be conducted by Harry Spence Lyth, a distinguished visitor from Berlin, and features solo performances by School of Music virtuosos Wendy Huang (piano), Amalia Hall (violin) and Hao Chen (piano) who are competing for a $3000 top prize.

"The response to last year's concert was extraordinary, so we are delighted that this celebratory event will happen again in 2008," says Professor Robert Constable, Head of the School of Music. "The Graduation Gala concert is a wonderful way to unite the University and the community and allow the talents of our young musicians to truly shine."

The concert programme is as follows:

Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
Soloist: Wendy Huang (piano)

Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No 3 in B minor, 1st and 3rd movements
Soloist: Amalia Hall (violin)

Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, 3rd movement.
Soloist: Hao Chen (piano)
