Most recently seen on TVone’s ‘Kiwi Kitchen’ championing Domestic Culinary tradition Richard is going back to his restaurant roots and opening a restaurant where he cooks the meals.

The three week restaurant is opening as Anderson Dining in an historic building that has been disused for the best part of 25 years. The name comes from the building, the pattern making workshop of the famous Anderson’s Foundry which was a big part of the engineering and heavy industry scene of early Christchurch until not so long ago. The building has had years of foundry grime cleaned away and has buffed up beautifully.

Richard is cooking in a state of the art containerised kitchen by Chefs Hire of Christchurch. The container is a fully compliant kitchen that can cater for well over a thousand. It bumps up to a door in the side of the dining room so the restaurant offers an old fashioned glimpse of the kitchen action with the ‘flash of the flames in the pan’ visible from the beautiful parquet floored dining room.

It’s one price to sit down, we offer a short menu engulfed in considered hospitality for three course dinner four nights a week and a Sunday lunch with a roast meat trolley dispensing slabs of beautifully cooked ham from down Oamaru way, turkey from Ashburton and lamb with rich dark gravy.

The menu will offer dishes that can only be cooked for a restaurant off a type of Table d'hote menu. A feature of the restaurant will be the care and attention paid to all vegetable accompaniments, the potato preparation even more so.
