In May, one of the nation's most vital and shining musical talents is set to undertake a New Zealand tour: Hollie Smith is returning to her home crowd after the first stage of what looks certain to be an expanding career in the international spotlight.

With her album Long Player already surpassing double platinum sales at home, Hollie recently began introducing her unique musical style to areas further afield. Following her jaw-dropping performances at the inaugral New Zealand Bluesfest and it’s counterpart in Byron Bay, Hollie Smith spent April in front of audiences across France, Switzerland, England, Ireland, and Scotland.

These explorations culminated in a burst of activity across the Tasman surrounding the Australian release of the album, where the singer looks likely to be embraced as warmly by the locals as she has been at home.

Hollie Smith’s career has gone from strength to strength since she moved to Wellington back in 2003, and started recording and touring with the likes of TrinityRoots and Fly My Pretties.

After releasing her own EP, Hollie’s vocals on the Mt Raskill Preservation Society single ‘Bathe In The River’ meant she topped the charts with the biggest-selling local record of 2006. Of course, this tour will have some firsts of its own: It will be her first visit to some of this country’s other venues as well. And considering the building momentum of her career, who knows when we will see her up close again . . .
