Bone came out of the Royal Court Young Writer’s programme and was first performed at The Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs on 9 September 2004.

Helen wants answers from her dead husband after the loss of their entire farm stock to foot and mouth, Stephen dreams of exploding hand grenades in his office while battling with the harsh reality his one true love has married someone else, and Jamie, spurred on by his sister’s suffering, has one night of pub-hopping to find a shag before heading off to war.

This harrowing dark comedy artfully intertwines the lives of Helen, Stephen and Jamie as they reveal the human cost of world events on ordinary people.

Three lives stripped bare in a modern world stumbling into a most unexpected redemption.

‘The play acquires a haunting fascination.’ – The Guardian
